Today, let’s talk about TNT’s new reality series Cold Justice.
There are a lot of unsolved murders in America, see? (Particularly in the South.) And Kelly Siegler and Yolanda McClary do not care for that. Siegler, see, is nicknamed “the giant killer” and has prosecuted 20 capital murder cases and gotten the death penalty in 19 of them. And McClary (who looks like Lindsay Lohan, even though she must be twice Lohan’s age) is a forensics expert who inspired Marg Helgenberger’s character on CSI. It’s a real-life version of Rizzoli & Isles!
It’s also like R&I in that it’s a half hour of material stretched thin at an hour.
Both women are tough, no-nonsense types who are passionate about helping the small-town cops who have been stymied in the cases for years. And there is a certain amount of shivery pleasure in watching them nail the killers in the second episode. Justice is served, y’all! But too often, these long-cold cases turn into, “Well, this 20-year-old says this is what happened 10 years ago, and these shifty-eyed people say this happened.” Who to trust?
That being said, how pleasant to see two woman on a reality show who are respected professionals, good at their jobs, and hard working. And if we needed another hour of reality TV, at least this one is doing something for the world at large, rather than pitting horrible people against worse people. My recommendation? Sunday morning watching.
