John Travolta Was Staying Alive While Barely Clothed

I had planned to write a recap of Staying Alive, the misbegotten sequel to Saturday Night Fever that saw John Travolta reprise his performance as Tony Manero under Sylvester Stallone’s direction. But when I went in search of photos to illustrate what would surely have been my deathless prose, it occurred to me that these are all you need to know about the movie, which picks up a few years after Saturday Night Fever with Tony an aspiring Broadway hoofer who gets cast in a big, splashy musical. And it’s not immediately apparent from these lubed up photos, but Travolta was in the best shape of his life, and so lovingly photographed by Stallone and crew that you’d swear a woman directed the movie and used the chance to flip the male gaze.

I love this movie. LOVE this MOVIE. I need to do a double feature with this and Grease 2 (my all time favorite movie). I have a thing for shitty sequels, I suppose.

Reblogged this on Dinner is Served 1972 and commented:
Karen Carpenter Died For Your Sins gives you one of my all-time favorite movies in just 5 photos.
    Far from over, indeed!
P.S. I will SO have a post tomorrow.
