9900_10151401808937447_763874106_nWhat first began as simple children’s toys eventually morphed into a full-fledged cottage industry with Sweden’s Dala horses. They remained mostly an inhouse thing, if you will, until the 1939 World’s Fair, when everyone was charmed by them. The next year saw the sale of 20,000 Dala horses.

Like so much in Stockholm, new ones were ridiculously expensive, so one must make do with what one finds in zoos.
