Following up Garth Brooks’ “The Thunder Rolls” with the Dixie Chicks’ “Goodbye Earl” is only appropriate. When the Chick’s album Fly came out, everyone was talking about this particular track, which got tons of radio play even before it was released as a single. Because it had black comedy lyrics, people were enraged that they were hearing a song about a woman killing her husband… despite Brooks’ song being a hit less than a decade before. Regardless, the Chicks didn’t back down and even filmed this very funny music video for the song, starring Jane Krakowski, Dennis Franz, and Lauren Holly.
